Alcohol Addiction Treatment and Rehab
If drinking has started to cost you more than it gives, you are not alone, and you do not have to stop on your own. Alcohol is legal and everywhere, which makes a drinking problem easy to hide and hard to admit, and stopping suddenly after heavy drinking can be medically dangerous. At Tranquility Clinic in Glenferness, Midrand, we offer medically supervised alcohol detox and residential rehab, with a full clinical team on site.
Signs That Drinking Has Become a Problem
Alcohol use disorder rarely arrives overnight. It tends to build slowly, until drinking feels less like a choice and more like a need. Common warning signs include:
- Drinking more, or for longer, than you meant to
- Needing more alcohol to feel the same effect
- Shaking, sweating, anxiety or nausea when you stop
- Trying to cut down and not managing to
- Work, family or finances suffering because of drinking
- Drinking to cope with stress, sleep or difficult emotions
How We Treat Alcohol Addiction
Safe detox first, then real recovery
Stopping heavy drinking suddenly can cause serious withdrawal, including tremors, seizures and, in severe cases, delirium tremens. That is why alcohol treatment at Tranquility starts in our on-site medical detox unit, where our doctor, psychiatrist and nursing team monitor you around the clock and use medication-assisted treatment to keep withdrawal as safe and comfortable as possible. Once you are medically stable, the deeper work begins, with a team that treats the whole person:
Your residential programme runs from 21 days to 3 months depending on your clinical needs. It is built on our four pillars: a structured daily programme, medication-assisted treatment, family involvement and a recovery network based on the Minnesota Model 12-step approach.

Worried About Someone Else's Drinking?
You cannot force someone to stop, but you can help them take the first step
Watching someone you love drink themselves into trouble is exhausting and frightening. Maybe they hide bottles, promise to cut down and do not, or become someone you do not recognise when they drink. Arguments, missed work and money problems tend to follow.
You do not have to have all the answers. Our admissions team speaks to worried family members every day and can talk you through how to approach the conversation, what treatment involves and how admission works. Weekly family support groups continue throughout treatment, because families need support too.

Frequently
Asked Questions
Questions we often get asked about alcohol rehab
How long is alcohol rehab?
A: Our residential programmes run from 21 days to 3 months, depending on your drinking history, your physical health and your progress in treatment. Your team will recommend the right length after your assessment.
Is alcohol withdrawal dangerous?
A: It can be. After long periods of heavy drinking, stopping suddenly can cause seizures and delirium tremens, which can be life threatening. Please do not stop abruptly on your own. A medically supervised detox, like the one in our on-site unit, keeps you safe.
Does medical aid cover alcohol rehab?
A: Substance use disorder, including alcohol use disorder, is a Prescribed Minimum Benefit condition, so registered medical schemes must cover a portion of treatment, subject to pre-authorisation. See our medical aid and fees page, or ask our admissions team to confirm your benefits.
Can my family be involved?
A: Yes, and we encourage it. Family involvement is one of our four pillars, and onsite family support group meetings are held weekly throughout treatment.
Where is Tranquility Clinic?
A: We are at 438 Chattan Road, Glenferness, Midrand, within easy reach of Johannesburg, Pretoria and the rest of Gauteng. Our admissions team is available 24/7 on 011 568 5197.
